What is Gears of War: E-Day?

Gears of War: E-Day is a third-person cover shooter developed by The Coalition and published by Xbox Game Studios. Set 14 years before the original game, it follows Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago as the Locust invasion begins.

Built in Unreal Engine 5, the game combines a darker origin story with squad-based multiplayer. Play the campaign alone or with friends, tackle objectives across 12-player Horde Siege battles, or face another team in 4v4 Versus.

Gears of War: E-Day Horde Siege Guide

Horde Siege is a 12-player PvE mode built around three four-player squads operating on the same battlefield. Missions combine objectives, Energy management, secondary activities, boss events, progression, and a final extraction.

  1. Deploy as a squad

    Deploy as part of a four-player squad while three squads share the same large Horde Siege battlefield.

  2. Work the objectives

    Complete mission objectives such as Secure, Calibrate, Repair, Defend, or Horde while responding to changing battlefield events.

  3. Chase secondary objectives

    Complete optional Secondary Objectives to earn bonus rewards including Weapon Parts, equipment, and Squad Perks.

  4. Spend shared Energy

    Collect shared Energy and spend it individually at Supply Caches on equipment, perks, weapons, and defensive installations.

  5. Extract with the Raven

    Clear the extraction zone and board the Raven; at least one member of the squad must extract successfully to complete the mission.

Horde Siege launches with four distinct classes, each with its own starting loadout, combat bonus, progression track, and Tactical Gear. Each class has 30 progression levels at launch, with additional classes planned for seasonal updates.

    A flexible mid-range class with a Sonic Disruptor that stuns enemies and a damage bonus while fighting from cover.

  • Breacher

    A close-range frontline class with an Adrenaline Injector that restores health and reduces incoming damage.

  • Marksman

    A precision-focused class with a Pulse Drone that tags Locust targets and increased critical-hit damage.

  • Medic

    A mid-range support class whose Stim Vaporizer can heal and revive nearby Gears, including downed players from other squads.

Gears of War: E-Day Versus Guide

Versus is built around balanced 4v4 PvP with identical starting loadouts and Power Weapons placed around each map. The launch lineup contains four core modes and six new maps set around the war-torn city of Kalona.

  • Team Deathmatch

    Teams fight through a shared pool of lives, with dynamic respawns that react to where combat is taking place.

  • Conquest

    Teams capture and defend active zones, with each zone remaining active until one side earns enough occupation time to score.

  • Demolition

    Teams contest a neutral bomb and attempt to plant it at one of two enemy bombsites; three successful detonations win the match.

  • Crucible

    Teams carry a Power Core into a moving scoring zone while defending the core from the opposing squad.

E-Day rebuilds gunplay around simulated projectile travel, new aiming options, revised classic weapons, and a new Weapon Mod system. Weapon Mods are used in Campaign and Horde Siege, while competitive Versus keeps weapons unmodified for balanced starts.
